Charlotte, NC: Breakfast of Champions!

Gary's new pad in Charlotte is definitely a bachelor pad. Super high ceiling loft style with lots of windows. It's pretty awesome. It would a lot more awesome, however, if it has electricity! Gar-Bear forgot to call Duke Energy (pretty funny considering the company is his employer) and the earliest they can turn on the electricity is Tuesday after the holiday weekend. For now, we have candles and we're stealing the AC from the hallway. Hehe.

First morning in the new bachelor pad and we're both rudely awakened by this incessant beeping sound. We finally determine that it's not the alarm system (which was incessantly beeping yesterday) but the smoke detector. Unfortunately, the super high ceilings make this typical occurrence a huge nuisance. There was no way to get up there to change the battery! Here's Gary trying to reach it...

FIFA UPDATE!

We gave up trying to mess with the smoke detector. Instead, it was 10am and time or the Germany vs. Argentina quarterfinal game. I remember watching this game in a bar in Frankfurt 4 years ago, almost to the day. What an event to remember! I had faith that my German boys would pull through and by golly did they pull through. Argentina is not going to forget this one for a long time. GO DEUTSCHLAND!

Gary and I found a new bar, Icehouse, across the street from his pad that had several large TVs showing the game (remember, Gary doesn't have electricity let alone cable TV). While we watched the game, I had the breakfast of champions in the south -- BBQ ribs! Yum! Gary had a BBQ pulled pork sandwich. Looked really good too.

Dunno why, I can't resist taking pictures of Gary eating. Gary eating pulled pork sandwich in Charlotte (left). Gary eating eclair in Venice, Italy (right). I think it's cuz he looks so funny... Note the increase in hair.
