Charlotte, NC: Price's Chicken Coop and the NASCAR Hall of Fame

So after the movers came, Gary and I were starving so we went looking for fried chicken. This was THE place: Price's Chicken Coop It was packed. Giant vats of oil with heaps of fried chicken. Mmmm....

I ordered a half chicken mixed dark and white meat. The chicken was amazing. Perfectly crispy and juicy inside. In addition, every order comes with hush puppies (not that great), hash browns (pretty good but they remind me of McDonald's hash browns), bun and cole slaw (not that great either). Picture of me and my inaugural southern fried chicken.

After lunch we dropped off my car at a local dealer just to make sure everything was in order and to get a long overdue oil change. Everything was time - I replaced a water pump belt. Thank goodness nothing major. Fingers crossed...

Next, we went off to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This one, Thomas, is for you. After years and years of listening to you yap on about NASCAR, I figured I'd go see what the fuss was all about. Since I was definitely the only person of any Asian decent in the building, I felt the need to do an Asian girl pose. CHEESE!

Gary was having a blast designing his own car and learning how to be in the pit crew.

We tested springs for different pound pressure.

I did my best Richard Petty impression...

...then we managed to catch the last ten minutes of the Uruguay vs. Ghana game. What a finish!!! In the last minute of overtime Ghana dominates in front of Uruguay's goal. The goalie dives but misses the ball. Instead, two players are in front of the goal and one player uses his fist to punch the ball out of the net. HAIL MARY! A red card is given and Ghana comes up for the penalty kick...the penalty kick that could win the game and advance them to the semifinals...and MISSES! It goes to penalty kick shootout and, well, the rest is history. What a game. What a game.

Before the night was out, an old old friend came over to visit. By chance Katy found me on Facebook about two weeks ago and even more by chance, she is living in Charlotte. It's been 15 years since we last saw each other and the first thing we both said was, "You look exactly the same!" I think that's a good thing! =) Katy was sweet and brought over some Highland Brewing Gaelic Ale. Turns out, Gary and Katy's husband went to the same grad program at Duke and know each other! What a small world. Thanks for coming by Katy! It was nice to you and I loved catching up!
