Fort Worth, TX: Aunt Gina and Uncle Jim's

I arrived at Aunt Gina and Uncle Jim's house late... (sporting my Germany jersey of course)

...and was promptly offered some wine and cheese! I love my family.

They have two enormous New Foundland dogs. One named Mercedez and the other named Benz. Ohhh... snap. And they LOVE good food - check out this birch syrup! It's darn good. A little bit bitter.

The next day, Aunt Gina took me to her favorite market, Eatzi's. It's like heaven...

They make their own bread, have a huge selection of ready made food...

...great selection of wine and of course cheese and salami. Mmmmm....

We bought a proscuitto sandwich, a portobello sandwich and some sugar snap peas for lunch.

After lunch, I met up with a friend I met in Venice, Italy, Keerthan, to watch the Germany vs Spain semifinal game. Keerthan and I shared the same hostel room in Venice and had a great time hanging out there. I'm so grateful to be able to make new friends and have friends all over the world! The soccer game outcome wasn't what I wanted though. Eh, a repeat of the last World Cup. I was sad that Germany lost but a little wine and a lot cheese fixed that right up! (Sorry Uncle Jim - stole your cheese plate!)

Aunt Gina cooked dinner - another homemade meal! Fish, peppers with pork and buffalo meatball soup. Awesome, of course.

My final morning in Fort Worth consisted of a workout at my aunt's fitness club, a one hour massage (thank you Aunt Gina!), lunch with Aunt Gina and Uncle Jim, a tour of Uncle Jim's new office building and BOOT SHOPPING!!! Authentic Texan cowboy boots were definitely in order. How else could I call myself a true shoe-a-holic?

Aunt Gina brought me to the "Stockyards", the old part of Fort Worth. We were told to go to Leddy's for the best handmade boots in town. Seriously. Ostrich, alligator, kangaroo, even goat! The first boot I picked up was $1095. The second was $1495. When we asked how much the boots ran, the salesman said, "Honey, we start at $800 and go up to $10,000. How much do you want to spend?" "Maybe $100-200," I said. "Well, you can't walk into the Rolls-Royce of boots and come askin' for a Toyota!" Nice. We tried on a few pairs since we were there anyway. The salesman referred us to another store down the street for something in my budget.

And there they are! More photos to come....
